There are many reasons why starting on a home inspection career is a good move. Nowadays, home inspection is gradually becoming a standard procedure in the home buying process. Because of this, the US Department of Labor predicts that there may be a significant increase in the demand for home inspectors through the next six years. For those who have a keen interest in the housing and real estate business, now is a good time to start learning the trade.

Thanks to the Internet, becoming a home inspector is an attainable goal. Aspiring home inspectors need only do a search at Google or some other search engine and they will be bombarded with a plethora of online schools claiming to offer training programs. Before signing up for an online course, it is best to look at the Web-based school’s credentials. Is the school accredited by a nationally recognized authority? Who devised the training program? An online school accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council, with a program created by knowledgeable, highly experienced licensed home inspectors, is an individual’s best bet for starting his home inspection career. Online classes provide convenience and flexibility for students to learn without compromising already existing responsibilities.

Depending on the individual’s state of residence, he may need to pass a nationally recognized licensure exam before becoming a professional inspector. Currently, there are 23 states that require one to pass the licensure test. Many professional inspection associations also require passing the National Home Inspector Exam for membership.
